Myths of Long Life
Quite a few cultural narratives speak of exceptional longevity with or without eternal youth. These legends include the fountain of youth, the village elder narrative, the story of Shangri-La and various folk tales of long life. Even the P.T. Barnum story that promoted Joice Heth to be a 161 year old woman who looked very old but in actuality she was only 80.
It is well recognized that both men and women have the potential to live past 100 years of age and this is well documented in past history. Now that modern science and medicine are creating an environment of wellness we believe that it is possible for any number of men and women to exceed the 122 year possibility.
